This was not a bad story. Charlie is a thief-taker, which means he finds thieves and retrieves stolen goods. Oddly enough, he's called in for a murder case, and asked to find a silver thimble that was stolen from the deceased. There's a lot of twists and turns as Charlie unravels the mystery of the thimble and deduces the true identity of the killer, occasionally accompanied by his friend (the muscle) who's boxing to earn enough money to marry his sweetheart.The mystery drew me through, but Charlie (a sort of Sherlock Holmes) fell flat for me and I had a hard time connecting with him. The writing is solid, the characters were well developed, it just wasn't my thing. I'm sure others will enjoy it, though.

Loved it! Bounced back and forth between the kindle and audible versions (great narration) and thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. More? Many thanks for a solid diverting read.
The entire Charlie Tuesday series is great, this short story included. The descriptions of 1600`s London along with complicated mysteries and characters makes the stories even more enjoyable.
Death Magic makes up its shortness with tons of action and intrigue. I had forgotten how cool Charlie Tuesday is, and how his brain works to figure out what's going on. This brief chapter is pure business. I read it very quickly but enjoyed every word.
I was happy that this book was written. IN spite of this being a short story, there were a lot of plot switchbacks. I did not discover the villain until uncovered by Charlie Tuesday. The setting was very well described, that of London in the 1660's The book was thoroughly delightful.
Wow! C.S. Quinn put a whole 500 page book into 58 pages full of murder, witches, crime and like in London in 1663 ---making it one of the best stories I have ever read --- even got my heart racing!
Good short story with a character I enjoy. Would like to see this fleshed out into a longer story but despite that it worked as a short. The author is good with development and backstory, just enough to get you what you need to figure out what is going on with the story. Unlike some serial writers who spend pages rehashing the serial backstory for those people who don't read each book, Quinn does a great job giving us enough without making us hate each page we have to "reread" in each new book.

Once the ball gets rolling author does a fine job in this historical suspense story containing mysterious characters, exorcisms and burning would-be witches at the stake. Had several likable characters, plot twists and a surprise ending which I enjoyed and also liked how protagonist was able to reason out the mystery step-by-step. Very good book and I would enjoy reading more of this author's works!
